The Flip Camcorder has received mainly favourable reviews from customers. At the time of writing the Flip Ultra HD got an average of 4 stars out of 5 from customers on Amazon UK.

31 of the 70 reviews gave it 5 stars and 23 gave it 4 stars. It seems that customers are mainly happy with the Flip camcorder.

The most helpful favourable review mentioned that he was impressed by how easy it was to use. The reviewer also found the Flip to be as portable as a “chunky 2006 Nokia phone” and easy to carry in his pocket. Because of this he used it more than his older, larger more expensive camcorder.

He was disappointed by the lack of a HDMI cable though.

The most helpful critical review gave the Flip 3 stars out of 5. Their Flip had a technical fault on the second day that they used it. It “froze” and they could not use it again. They had to return it to the supplier for repair or replacement.

The Flip Mino HD camcorder received an average of 4 stars from 27 reviews. Most of the reviews gave it 4 stars and 5 stars.

The Flip F260B Video Ultra got an average of 4.5 stars out of 5 from 130 reviews. This was the highest scoring Flip model from the largest number of reviewers. This is one of the earlier models that have been on the market for longer.

The Flip has also received favourable reviews in the media. The Observer called it “The world's simplest handheld digital camcorder” in their Nov 2009 review.

The Sunday Times said that it was “compact and supremely simple to use” in November 2008.

The Daily Mirror said that the Flip was “safe in the hands of the biggest technophobe” in November 2008.

Computer Shopper found it to be "particularly effective in low-light conditions... “in their October 2008 review.

The most frequently mentioned benefit in all these reviews is “ease of use”. This seems to be the secret of the Flip’s success and the main reason for it’s popularity. It’s performance in low light conditions is also praised by some reviewers.
